How To Prevent Individuals From Overdosing?

A drug overdose is a situation where an individual consumes an excess amount of drug, which the individual’s body is unable to cope up with. This leads to certain overdose signs, symptoms and complications. An overdose is harmful and dangerous as it can result in a toxic state and death. To prevent the individuals from overdosing, one of the best way is to control the availability of medicines, even over the counter medicines also. However, intentional overdoses are very difficult to prevent. The best way to prevent the effects of drug overdose is by distribution of the naloxone to injection drug users, which decreases the risk of death from overdose.

Here are some ideas to prevent the individuals from overdosing:

  • People with certain mental illnesses and the people who are abusing the drugs need the help of family and friends to assist with medication therapy and to lend social support.
  • It is a very big task for parents and grand parents to prevent poisoning and injury in the children due to drug consumption unknowingly. Keep the medications away from the children so that they will not consume those medications even accidentally because accidental poisoning is a leading cause of death in children from the age of 6 months to 5 years.
  • Give your suggestion to the elders in the house regarding how to take their medication and it may be safe to provide some supervision for seniors in taking medication.
  • Some containers can be useful for them which comes with clocks that have audible alarms as a reminder to take medications at specific times.

Since overdosing has very less time to get treated and its effects are very severe, it is very much necessary to prevent individuals from overdosing.
